Keep your Photoshop presets safe with Dropbox

So my computer just crashed and I lost all my Photoshop presets. All my important files were safe because they’re all backed up on Dropbox. After a little digging, I found this great tip on how to use Dropbox to back up your presets too! It’s also a great way to keep your Photoshops in sync if you use multiple computers.

Instructions:
  1. Create a directory in your Dropbox folder called “AppPresets/Photoshop/”
  2. Copy your Photoshop Presets directory over to the Dropbox folder you just made.
  3. Open Terminal and create a symbolic link to it named “Presets” by entering the following command: localhost:~ iMac$ ln -s /Volume/YourVolume/Path_to_Dropbox/Dropbox/AppPresets/Photoshop/Presets Presets (It should look like the command in the image above.
  4. Place this symbolic link in your Photoshop app directory in place of the original Presets directory.
  5. Now, go ahead and throw your computer out the window. Don’t worry, your presets will be safe.
Ah, life in the cloud is sweet.
